Dr. Robert E. Neighbor

1899-1901

Dr. Robert Edward Neighbor was born August 10, 1872 in Three Oaks, Michigan, and grew up in Dennison, Texas. He was educated at Baylor University, Waco, Texas, and was a college mate of Dr. George W. Truett, Lee Scarborough, and Ernest Townsend.

From Baylor, Dr. Neighbor went to Brazil as a missionary under Southern Baptist for several years, and when he returned to the United States, he was associated with John A. Broadus in evangelistic campaigns for a year. He then served as pastor of the East Macon Baptist Church in 1896.

From 1899 to 1901 Dr. Neighbor served as pastor of the Dublin First Baptist Church, and founded Marie Baptist Church, Dublin, Georgia in 1901.

In 1902 he served as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Americus, Georgia , pastor of First Baptist Church, Salisbury, North Carolina in 1906, founded Southside Baptist Church, Spartanburg, South Carolina in 1908, Founded Tabernacle Baptist Church, now prince Avenue Baptist Church, Athens, Georgia, 1911-1913, founded Tabernacle Baptist Church, Augusta, Georgia, 1914-1916.

Dr. Neighbor served as pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Macon, GA, 1917-1918, pastor of First Baptist Church, Elyrea, Ohio, 1919-1925. He was a Bible teacher and organizer of a church in Paul Rader Tabernacle, Chicago, Illinois, 1926-1927, Bible conference speaker and evangelist throughout the U.S. and Canada, 1928-1929, pastor of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Vancouver, B.C. 1930 -1931, pastor Missionary Alliance Church, Los Angeles, California, pastor (second time) First Baptist Church Elyria, Ohio. He went to mission fields in India and Europe and had a great evangelistic crusade in Budapest, Hungary.

Dr. Neighbor was the author of several books, including: Gems of Gold (devotion with poems, Wells of Living Water, (14 volumes), Sermons and Bible Studies (12 Volumes), The Rider on The White Horse, Pre and Post Millennialism, Books on James, Galatians, Ephesians, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, and numerous booklets on a variety of subjects, such as sanctification, church separation, and prophecy.

Dr. Neighbor died on June 10, 1945 and was buried in a cemetery at Elyria, Ohio.
